I remember playing this game throughout the mid 2000's and beating the game around 3 times on both XBox and PS2 and was very glad to see the game remastered for the PC where I am working on my 4th playthrough. From a nostalgic point of view I love this game but I can see what would turn people off from it. The game has its fair share of flaws but in my opinion none of them are outright deal breakers and arguably make the game more satisfying to complete as they provide an element of challenge that is not too often seen in games released in recent years. I would recommend this game to more than just the nostalgic old players on the condition that they don't mind the following constraints:- The controls in this game are ported over from XBox and are not the easiest to use on PC which can make the game irritating at times. I would strongly advise bookmarking a page online that has the controls aswell considering there are no real ways to determine what button does what in game.On a side note if you have a controller you will likely have an easier time.- There is quite a bit of backtracking in this game and the objectives may not always be spelled out for you or outright obvious so it is a smart idea to actually pay attention to the story, explore the zones and make note of stuff you may not be able to do ingame yet.- The level design is not the greatest at times, some jumps will seem impossible but are just in fact very difficult, making full use of the double jump feature obtained early on in the game.- There are bugs in this game however most of them have been fixed however I will post 2 that I encountered for the sake of awareness: + Left eyes of sarcophagi are invisible+ A rare bug where conversation is inescapable and uninteracable with the NPC that runs the Heliopolis obstacle course.- Voice acting is pretty much non-existant outside of incomprehensable noises made by the characters in cutscenes. Despite the game's buggy behavior It has solid replay value and is a great fit for anyone that liked to play older action-adventure platformer games.. Liked it but cannot recomend it. Control setup is all screwed up and the camera is terrible. Good graphics and story but the rest...cannot recomend it.. A masterpiece and a masterful port, this is the definitive version of S&tCM, widescreen support, HD support, uncapped frame rate, perfect Xinput intergration, very few glitchesHowever I did notice some problems, like I said very few glitches but there are some glitches that I don't remember the game having (I played it on PS2) and the explosion(?) sound effect is missing from the title screen before the music kicks in, the text is also not programmed to scale to HD meaning text is very small even on a 720p screen (Tested on my GPD Win)overall though the game runs and looks great, running on my GPD Win at 1280x720 I held a nice 60FPS with some minor stutters, having this game portably is a childhood dream come true, as it stands this is the only version of this classic game to play, despite a few very minor issues, some extra effects might have been nice, though there seems to be some added bloom and engine-HDR to make the game a bit more vibrant, but some ambient occlusion or bump mapping would have been nice. I have loved this game since I was a child and I figured i'd give the HD version a shot since i'm honestly happy to see any news about this game. The HD one has quite a few errors that are rather annoying; certain sounds don't work like footsteps, falling.etc, The controls feel like they've been kicked into overdrive and are clunky, there are issues with items popping up and rendering which get very annoying, and when you go into a sarcophagus the left eye vanishes and that's just from what I've played so far. The game still looks beautiful but I wish this had been a little more reviesed before it was put back out; I still like the game but at the end of the day I might just play it on my ps2 until the errors are fixed.. One of my childhood favorites. Full of great puzzles and exciting platformer obstacles. I find this game to be a great classic with core gaming mechanics. I give this a 9.5/10 for sure!. Sphinx and the cursed mummy has always been a favourite of mine, to see it noww on steam for all to play brings a smile to my face. Sure it has a couple kinks here and their but the devs are always quick and responsive and will try to patch issues ASAP. Honestly I'd give this re-release an 8/10.
